2024 STAFF INTRODUCTIONS

Brianne Headshot.JPG

Brianne

Welcome everyone! My name is Brianne, and this will be my 2nd year as a counselor! I grew up in Greenwood, Indiana and am currently a student at Indiana Wesleyan University studying Elementary Education. I have a strong passion for teaching and desire to make a difference in people’s lives, and camp has been such a wonderful opportunity for me to do so.

This past summer, I had the privilege of teaching the nature clinic with fellow counselors for 8 weeks and soon began to fall in love with the beauty of camp.  As a kid, I never had the opportunity to attend a summer camp, thus I never truly knew what camp was all about. After being a counselor for the first time, I learned that camp is so much more than getting to sleep in a cabin, being able to go swimming, or even making smores late at night. Camp is about developing lifetime friendships, trying something new, and making memories that will last forever. This is exactly what I will strive to do as a counselor in order for my campers to experience the magic of Flat Rock!

As for my hobbies… I love all things nature, being outdoors, playing guitar when able, reading, and hanging out with friends/family. One of the things that I love most about being a counselor is getting to see how much campers grow throughout the week and watching them conquer their fears. Closing campfire has always been special for me, as I was able to see the impact camp has made on them. My favorite camp song would probably be Princess Pat because it’s super catchy and fun, not to mention it will get stuck in your head many times throughout the summer. 😉 I cannot wait to meet you all this summer!!

John

Hello! My name is John Broadwell. I am currently a student at Indiana University Bloomington studying Law and Public Policy. My first experience with Flat Rock was summer camp when I was 7 years old, and I have stayed at camp for several weeks a year every year since. This will be my 12th year as a Flat-Rocker, and my 2nd year on camp staff.

My favorite aspect of camp is that it provides access to experiences and skills that campers would otherwise never be able to do. From my time as a camper at Flat Rock and being an Eagle Scout through Boy Scouts of America, I was able to become adept in skills like riflery, archery, and wilderness survival. Some of my fondest memories as a camper are of my time in the archery range, and probably the most rewarding part of being on camp staff is being able to pass on my knowledge and skills to new campers.

Taneesha

Hey everyone, I'm Taneesha, originally from Zionsville, Indiana. Currently, I'm pursuing my Major in Nursing at Hanover College. My journey with camp has been quite an exciting and rewarding ride - 11 years as a camper and now stepping into my second year as a counselor.

I absolutely love being a role model and mentor at camp. There's something incredibly fulfilling about being part of this unique environment, where kids can truly be themselves and grow in ways they never imagined. Seeing their faces light up when they conquer their fears on the ropes course or hit a bullseye in archery is pure magic. Being there to witness their journey, from the first day of camp jitters to the tearful goodbyes on the last day, is an honor beyond words. Camp has shaped me in more ways than I can count. It's been my sanctuary, where I found freedom and happiness. I learned to embrace confidence, try new things fearlessly, and cherish friendships. It's where I discovered the joy of living life to the fullest.

As a counselor, whether it's lending a listening ear during cabin chats, cheering campers on during activities, or simply sharing a laugh over s'mores by the campfire, I strive to create a safe and inclusive space where they feel empowered to be themselves. My goal is to not only teach them skills like teamwork and resilience but also instill in them a sense of confidence and self-worth that they can carry with them long after they leave camp. Because at the end of the day, it's not just about the memories we make here—it's about the lasting impact we have on each other's lives.

When it comes to camp songs, picking a favorite is like trying to catch fireflies in a jar – almost impossible! But if I had to choose, "Rare Bog," "Herman the Worm," and "I Have a Mango" would definitely be up there on my list. Outside of camp, you'll often find me on the volleyball or basketball court. I also enjoy learning new things, watching movies, and of course, spending quality time with loved ones. Camp holds a special place in my heart, and I can't wait to see you and dive into another summer filled with unforgettable moments, laughter, and growth!

Cierra head shot_edited_edited.jpg

Cierra
HILL Coordinator

Hi! My name is Cierra and I am from Fishers, Indiana. Recently, I graduated from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University where I earned my B.A in Sociology. I was a camper for 12 years, this will be my 6th year on staff and my 2nd year as the Hill Coordinator.

My favorite part about being a role model is watching the kids become comfortable and confident in the activities they do over the week. It is so rewarding to watch them get excited about reaching their self-set goals and making new ones for themselves as the week goes on.

Camp means the absolute world to me and has taught me so much about myself. It has definitely shaped me into the person I am today. Camp has given me so many values to follow and take into my life outside of camp. It has also taught me to have empathy for other people and things around me.

My favorite camp song has to be the Wizard Song and my favorite camp memory is being in a dance clinic and performing the dance for all of camp.

Camp will be here before we know it and I can’t wait to meet you all and lead the girls on The Hill!

Nolyn Headshot_edited.jpg

Nolyn
VALLEY Coordinator

Hello everybody, my name is Nolyn and I am from Danville, Indiana. I am a business student at Ball State University studying Business Administration and Economics. Chirp Chirp! I was a camper at Flat Rock for 3 years but have been a part of camp for 8 years now. I have been a Valley counselor for the past 2 summers at Flat Rock and look forward to my new role as the Valley Coordinator!

My favorite part about being a camp counselor is being able to make and see a difference in my campers' lives. Camp has turned me into the person I am today by helping me become an outgoing person on my campus and giving me the required skills that help me in public speaking. I learned so many things about myself at camp as well and it laid a huge foundation on how I want to treat others.

As a role model at camp, I want to share my appreciation for the outdoors as well as my ambition to make the world a better place. My favorite camp song has got to be “Down in the Valley” simply because that is my favorite spot to be at Flat Rock. One of my favorite camp memories is running all around camp in a dinosaur blanket to be the dragon for another cabin's dragon hunt during fantasy week. The joy the campers had on their faces was priceless and definitely a highlight of my first summer as a counselor.

Outside of camp, I enjoy going on long walks around campus at night, but nothing compares to seeing the hundreds of stars after dark at camp. I also enjoy playing my guitar and ukulele any chance I can as well as learning new random instruments like the cajon or ocarina. Lastly, I enjoy spending time with the important people in my life and making new memories with them. I can’t wait to see you all this summer!

Molly Headshot_edited.jpg

Molly
VILLAGE Coordinator

Hey Flat Rock family! I’m Molly, proudly from Avilla, Indiana. I am so excited to be back for my 4th summer on staff after 7 years as a camper. Camp life is my passion, from the best baked oatmeal to conquering overnights. When I’m not at camp, I am working at a Montessori school or soaking up live music, crafting, and nature.

Flat Rock isn’t just a camp, it’s my haven and where I found myself as a camper. Now as a staff member, I am excited to continue to create that same haven for campers by fostering bonds and offering a safe space for everyone. Some of my most cherished memories are from camp adventures, like my first horseback ride or conquering my fear of going down the zip line after a decade! My favorite song  is Herman The Worm.

Flat Rock has been a transformative force in my life, and I’m beyond thrilled to dive back in with my new role at the Village Coordinator. Here’s to another summer of growth, friendship, and unforgettable moments!

Cliff Headshot_edited.jpg

Cliff

Hello everyone! My name is Cliff, and I am from a city which has a long journey to the USA - Hong Kong!  I am now a Year 3 student currently studying in Hong Kong Baptist University majoring in Physical Education and Recreation Management. Probably I am new to everyone because it is my first time being a counselor. I am excited and can’t wait to meet all of the friends from different countries.

A little about me: I have a motorcycle license, so I like to ride my motorcycle around the city discovering new places and things. Besides that, I like to play sports such as swimming, water polo and also basketball and cycling. Other things I like to do in my free time is listening to English music songs, watching movies and chatting with my friends.

Throughout the year, I have been teaching children’s swimming and I enjoy taking care of children and playing with them while having lessons. Also, I will think of some creative ideas to help them learn faster. I can offer a non-judgmental and unbiased perspective, creating a safe space for campers to express their thoughts and concerns.

Ultimately, as a new counselor my goal is to act like a role model to make a positive difference in the lives of campers by offering support, guidance, and encouragement. I aim to empower children to overcome obstacles, build healthy relationships, and thrive in various aspects of their lives.

See you all soon!

Justice Headshot_edited_edited.jpg

Justice

Hi everyone! My name is Justice. I am from the small town of Wauseon, Ohio which is close to Toledo. I am currently attending Ball State University studying Criminal Justice and Psychology, as well as minoring in American Sign Language. I was a camper for 6 years at a camp near my hometown, I was a counselor at this camp for 4 years, and an adult volunteer for 1 year, which brings me to this summer. I found out about Flat Rock through one of the other staff members who absolutely loves camp, and I am so excited to be part of the team this year.

I am most looking forward to showing campers what a good role model is by providing a positive attitude for them to follow. Being a camp counselor was my favorite part of my old camp because I was the one who got to show my campers the beauty of the outdoor world around us.

I feel that I am very skilled in helping kids push themselves out of their comfort zones to try new and exciting things in a safe manner. I feel that I can make a positive difference in the lives of my campers this summer by showing them that the outside world away from a screen has so many wondrous pieces to it, and that it is so much better to experience in person rather than through pictures.

Justice Fun Shot_edited.jpg

My favorite camp song from my home camp is “Fishin’ in the Dark” because all my friends from home know it. We all sit on the floor and do the dance together every time it plays. Outside of the camp setting, I love to read books with a thrilling twist, ride my horses at my grandparents' house, and make some small crafts for my friends. I am really looking forward to making memories at camp this summer. I’ll miss my home camp, but I can’t wait to see how I grow at Flat Rock with the campers and other staff members this year.

Leo Headshot.JPG

Leo

Hi there! My name is Leo. I’m from Indianapolis and I'm wrapping up my freshman year at IU. I am pursuing a major in Informatics and a minor in Environmental Science. I’ve been a camper for 11 years and this year will be my second year as a counselor.

I absolutely love camp. For me, camp started off as a place my parents sent me to get some time away, but it has turned into a home for me. Camp is about people, and the relationships you form at camp are for life. Camp has changed me for the better and helped me grow as a person. My goal is to help each camper break out of their shell and express themselves as I did.

I’m addicted to soccer and take any chance I can to play. I am very active and adore the outdoors. My free time consists of going to the gym, playing soccer, and fabricating. When I’m not studying or working at camp, you can find me on the soccer pitch or tinkering with things.

Leo Fun.JPG

To this day, my favorite camp memory is lying under the stars and listening to campfire stories at outpost. It’s such a peaceful moment that reminds me of how much fun I had as a camper. And of course, my favorite camp song is The Bear Song!

I believe that my skills and experiences help me be a strong counselor and role model. As a role model, mentor, and camp counselor, I’m looking forward to making camp as enjoyable for the campers as it was for me when I was their age. I guarantee that all my campers are going to have fun and amazing experiences they wouldn’t have outside of camp. I can’t wait to make this the best summer for everyone!

Stella Headshot.jpeg

Stella

Hi everyone! My name is Stella and I am from Munich, a beautiful city in the south of Germany. I am currently a student at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich, majoring in German Studies and minoring in Law.

This will be my second year as a counselor at Flat Rock, and I don't think there are enough words to describe what an incredible impact camp has had on me. I love being a counselor with all my heart, it has taught me a lot about how the smallest moments and gestures can sometimes matter the most.

What I appreciate most about being a counselor is the opportunity to create a caring, supportive, and fun environment in our cabin where everyone can be themselves and feel seen. It means so much to me being able to support and encourage each camper on their journey of trying out new things, gaining confidence and creating lifelong friendships and memories.

Stella Fun.jpeg

My favorite camp memories are the closing campfires and having an Iroqouis dance party in our pajamas while we got ready for bed. When it comes to singing camp songs, it will always be -the one and only- Princess Pat that gets me on stage.

In my free time, I enjoy reading books and cuddling with my cats at home, getting creative with arts and crafts and traveling to new places whenever I get the chance. Family and friends are very important to me, and I love playing group games, going for walks or dancing in the kitchen to ABBA. Two fun facts about me are 1. that I absolutely adore cows and 2. that I don't go to bed without having a cup of tea before.

Flat Rock truly is a magical place. I can't wait to meet new and old faces, and I'm 100% sure we're going to have the time of our lives this summer!

Rafa Headshot_edited.jpg

Rafa

Hola from Rafa! I am joining the team from Puebla City, Mexico. This is my third summer at Camp but my second summer as a counselor. One of my main intentions is to be the person I would have liked to know as a child, so my approach is based on trust, caring and fun. One of my greatest satisfactions is to deliver useful knowledge to the youngest ones, whether in the educational, emotional, or artistic fields.

One of my motivations to return as a counselor is that during the last year I was able to spend some time with the children and one of them, after a little talk, had an incredible change of attitude. Her attitude was transformed into a friendly and bright version. I like to believe that attitude has always been there. However, sometimes we must give a little confidence boost.

It is my intention to return to support the youth, because I believe it is my responsibility to help campers develop a caring, confident, empathetic attitude that that becomes a natural part of who they are. I currently work with children introducing the English language in a small school and so I am familiar with children's life together. Some of the interests I seek to share are music, drawing and creative writing.

Maddie M Headshot_edited.jpg

Maddie

Hey Flat Rockers! My name is Maddie McIntyre and I am born and raised in Noblesville, Indiana. I currently attend Noblesville High School, but in August I will be attending the University of Southern Indiana to major in social work! I am a performing arts student, and I am in my school’s varsity mixed show choir, and our theatre troupe! I am also the co-communications director of the Noblesville Bring Change 2 Mind mental health club, working to reduce the stigma associated with mental health. I love to try new things, hang out with my friends, and be with my pit bull terrier named Spirit!

I spent nine years in Flat Rock as a camper, and I am so excited to make my first year as a counselor the tenth! Camp has definitely become something I look back on every day, from life lessons carried over, core values, staying truthful and lifetime friendships. I am grateful to call camp my second home. I love everything and everyone in camp, and I can’t wait to make even more memories this summer!

Communication and respect are two of my biggest targets with every relationship I come across. I aim to uphold the other person’s feelings and make them feel welcomed and accepted. My goal is to make connections with each camper I come across, not only in the cabin but in clinics, meals, and full camp activities! My favorite camp memory would have to be getting into the service corps program last year, and having fun with my friends and Dallyss in the dish room playing our favorite songs-lots of work but completely worth it! My favorite camp song is definitely ‘yodeler on a mountain so high’ because of the funny actions and lengthy lyrics. I can’t wait to meet all of you, and have a fantastic summer!
