Homecoming Dinner

Over 100 people attended the Alumni Dinner at camp on June 10th and a "good time was had by all." The 1990s gathered "en masse" as Kathy Finney accepted the John Piper award - with members of his family along with others who attended or worked at Camp during the Piper years there to watch. There were fond memories were shared throughout the evening. Many generations represented, I ate dinner with three different decades of Riflery instructors which I thought was unusual in itself - the funny thing however, was the fact that I think they may have all used the same 22 caliber rifles! (The current Flat Rock director informed me that the camp had four brand new rifles donated in 2010.) During dinner the young staff asked for our "stories" of our summers at Flat Rock and, we delighted them with those we "could" share and joked about the ones we could not. Next year we are looking at a "campaign" to locate the 1980's alumni so, get your thinking caps on. Linda Barth, Mike "Joeb" Hall and Ann Arvidson all worked there in 1979 and 1980 and were present for the dinner and campfire&actually the last to leave too. Currently, there are 216 Flat Rock Alumni in the database and we want to GROW. Find your old friends on Facebook or even Google them and, see if we can keep adding names  the opportunity to serve camp at a much different level is upon us. Mark your calendars for next year's outing now - the dinner was delicious, a lovely campfire in the amphitheatre followed complete with skits and songs, the new staff were presented their t-shirts by alumni, and most important was the extraordinary company of those present who shared their camp stories new and old.
